The Medical Humanities Initiative hosted a Theatre Improv Workshop led by Jordan Butterfield, Director of Community Engagement and Training at Trinity Repertory Company.
Butterfield guided participants through a series of improvisational exercises designed to cultivate spontaneity, deep listening, and collaboration - skills essential to both performance and patient care.
Following the workshop, Dr. Jennifer Rusiecki and Dr. Nicola Orlov led a discussion connecting the themes of improv to clinical practice, highlighting how flexibility, empathy, and humor can strengthen communication and resilience in healthcare.
The evening encouraged students to embrace uncertainty and respond authentically, reminding us that, in both medicine and art, every interaction is an act of co-creation.
