Meet The Team

Diana Wang
Diana Wang is a second-year medical student at the Warren Alpert Medical School and a violinist passionate about the intersection of music and medicine. A Harvard College graduate with honors in Neurobiology, she has explored music-based interventions for dementia and remains active in medical orchestras and professional ensembles, blending her expertise in musicianship, research, and community engagement.

Kelsey Bogdan
Kelsey Bogdan is a second-year student at the Warren Alpert Medical School. Bogdan graduated from Harvard College in 2019 with a concentration in Cognitive Neuroscience and Evolutionary Psychology and a secondary in Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality. She then went on to pursue her Master of Fine Arts from Columbia College Chicago in 2022, where her thesis work primarily focused on sculptural and light-based installation. Bogdan has years of experience teaching in both the sciences and visual arts, and brings her experience in interdisciplinary curriculum design to the team. As an artist, Bogdan has exhibited across the country, and has curatorial and research experience in both contemporary and historical art. She looks forward to bringing her expertise in art making, interdisciplinary research, and teaching to the Initiative.

Ashley Knebel
Ashley Knebel is a second-year medical student at the Warren Alpert Medical School with a background in English and narrative writing. A Brown University graduate who studied representations of medicine in literature at Oxford, she also gained experience as a medical writer in the biotech industry. Knebel is passionate about using narrative to enhance communication and well-being in medical training and looks forward to helping students develop skills to process and write about their experiences.

Rachel Balaban
Rachel Balaban is a Rhode Island teaching artist and movement educator dedicated to making dance accessible to all, particularly for individuals with movement challenges and aging bodies. She founded Dance for All People (DAPpers), a multigenerational program for those with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers, and co-founded Artists and Scientists as Partners (ASaP) at Brown University to explore the impact of art on neurological disorders. As a Teaching Associate at the Warren Alpert Medical School, she leads movement workshops and integrates intergenerational art into medical education, empowering older adults, caregivers, and medical students to build meaningful connections.

Mariah Stump, MD
Mariah Stump, MD, MPH, FACP, DipABLM, ABOIM, is an attending physician in Women’s Primary Care at the Women's Medicine Collaborative and an assistant professor of medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine, she integrates mind-body practices into her work as a physician and educator. Passionate about medical humanities, Dr. Stump mentors in the Arts in Medicine Track, leads Narrative Medicine workshops, and directs electives in Lifestyle and Integrative Medicine, blending her expertise in reflection, movement, and narrative into medical education.

Tori Hippen
Tori Hippen is a Master of Public Health candidate at Brown University (Class of 2026), concentrating in Equitable Health Systems and Clinical Care Delivery, and serves as President of the Graduate Medical Humanities Initiative (GMHI). She is passionate about bridging medicine and the humanities to advance more compassionate, patient-centered care. She plans to pursue medical school following her MPH and a future career as a primary care physician. Her work focuses on health equity, clinical care delivery, and reducing disparities in health outcomes through interdisciplinary approaches that center the human experience in medicine.

Allison Chang
Allison Chang is a first-year student at the Warren Alpert Medical School. Chang graduated from Harvard College in 2019 with a concentration in Applied Mathematics and a secondary in Visual and Environmental Studies focused in Studio Art. She has a widespread range of artistic experience, ranging from creative and nonfiction writing, improv comedy, theater costume construction design, and film and digital photography. As a medical student, Chang is interested in arts and humanities as a creative outlet for healthcare professionals, and as tools for sharing narratives and improving communication. With the Institute, she is eager to explore interdisciplinary creative applications, connect local communities through art, and continue her journey of artmaking.

Christopher Sanchez Jr
Chris Sanchez is a first-year medical student at the Warren Alpert Medical School. He earned his undergraduate degree at Brown, where he studied chemistry and visual arts. His work focused on illuminated sculpture and installation, exploring themes of home, memory, and cultural identity. He continues his multidisciplinary art practice, working with materials ranging from found objects and light to watercolor. In medicine, he is interested in using visual art to improve health literacy and accessibility for non–English-speaking patients.

Christine Tsu
Christine Tsu is a third-year undergraduate student studying English and biology. Through her experiences as a writer, editor, and reader, creative expression has become an essential part of her life. She is passionate about the power of writing to enhance wellness, promote self-reflection, and deepen communication and connection. As an undergraduate leader of the Medical Humanities Initiative, she strives to help create accessible, empowering spaces for students to explore intersections and synergies between medicine and creative practices.

Jaanu Ramesh
Jaanu Ramesh is a third-year undergrad in Brown’s Program in Liberal Medical Education, pursuing a double concentration in biology and contemplative studies. She is passionate about empathetic medicine, computer science & teaching. Jaanu aspires to be a writer-doctor and to make an impact both in surgical outcomes research and in service to the least favored. She hails from the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts, and loves spending time with family, friends, and dogs.
